14 (Free!) Shredding Events in the Triangle – Spring 2019 Edition

Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary… We have you covered!

14 free shredding events in the Triangle

I have mined the depths of Google (results page 5! results page 10!) to find you every possible chance to clear out clutter and keep your identity secure. (The saving money doesn’t hurt, either…)

Shred-A-Thons! Community shredding events! With both Earth Day & Tax Day approaching, they’re happening all around us!

(Now I’m questioning whether this level of excitement is warranted for document destruction! Nonetheless, I’m still bringing it!)

If your papers aren’t organized:

Many of our clients have put off getting rid of large boxes and piles of paper taking up space in their home because they don’t know how to safely dispose of them.

From old bank statements, to mail with their names and address on it, they’re simply worried about their personal info sitting in the recycling bin for someone to sift through.

If that sounds like you, let this be the push you need to grab a few boxes of old documents and drop them off for shredding!

If your papers are organized:

Even after you tame the paper tiger and get your files filed, they still need to be purged regularly.

I recommend tax time as a good moment to quickly flip through each folder and pull out what’s no longer relevant – including the tax records that are now more than 7 years old!

A quick Google search for “What documents should you keep and for how long?” will get you some guidelines as you do this (here’s a simple list from Dave Ramsey).

Here’s my pile from this year! I always end up with a decent amount to recycle or shred ♻️

During the year you can drop off at Staples, Office Depot, FedEx or UPS, usually for about $1.00 per pound.

However, local governments, credit unions, and other businesses often also hold community shredding days in the spring and/or fall – here’s our roundup for Spring 2019 in the Triangle! If you don’t see an event you can make it to in your city, check for a town near you!

some notes for all events:

  • All shredded paper is recycled!

  • Most events recommend that you come early, as the shredding trucks fill up quickly.

  • Don’t bring books, magazines, newspapers, credit cards, or paper that belongs in recycling.

  • Don’t worry about removing staples or paper clips, but remove all metal from hanging file folder and spiral bound notebooks.
